Understanding Terminologies

Onboarding

Onboarding refers to guiding and equipping a new user or professional with the necessary tools, information, and system access required to begin using a service or performing their role efficiently.

EPCS Prescriber

An EPCS prescriber is a licensed healthcare provider authorized to electronically prescribe controlled substances using a certified Electronic Prescribing of Controlled Substances (EPCS) system. This process ensures prescriptions are transmitted securely and in compliance with federal and state regulations, particularly those enforced by the DEA.

Onboarding of EPCS Prescriber

  1. When the EPCS prescriber logs into the portal, a notification will appear at the top of the screen indicating that their ScriptSure onboarding is pending. Click the link in the message to begin and complete the onboarding process.
  2. In Step 1, the prescriber will enter their Personal NPI number, review and agree to the Terms of Use, Privacy Policy, and Code of Conduct by checking the box, then complete the reCAPTCHA. Click “Next” to proceed to Step 2.
Note: “NPI Number (National Provider Identifier),” is a unique 10-digit number assigned to healthcare providers in the U.S. by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), used for identification in billing and other HIPAA-compliant healthcare transactions.
  3. In Step 2, the First and Last Name fields are auto-filled. If applicable, enter a Suffix and select the appropriate Time Zone. Provide and confirm the Login Email, then enter the Cell Phone number. Once all required fields are completed, click “Next” to proceed.
  4. In Step 3, provide the Personal NPI, State License, and DEA numbers. Once all information is entered, click “Next” to proceed.
Note: A “State License” is an official authorization issued by a state medical or professional board, allowing a healthcare provider to legally practice within that specific state. A “DEA Number” is a unique identifier assigned by the Drug Enforcement Administration to authorized healthcare providers, permitting them to prescribe, dispense, or administer controlled substances.
  5. In step 4, after reviewing all agreement details, click “I Agree to All Terms” to continue.
  6. The prescriber will sign in to the ID.me account. To create a new account, enter the prescriber’s Email, Password, and Confirm Password. If the prescriber already has an ID.me account, click the link labeled “If you have an ID.me account, use it to sign in.”
  7. Enter the Email and Password, then click “Sign in” to continue.
  8. Enter the code and click on “Continue” to complete the onboarding.
